It always was invented for two.
The one,
“the” is the issue.
Could it be anyone?

Is it possible that you are together with yourself?
Maybe yes, when my mind isn’t screaming,
trying to stop the body from doing what it is right now.
The mind knows this is not how it wants to feel,
but the body ensures, “It’s all going to be fine”.
Very few live in peace, in complete sync.
It’s exhausting for so many,
fighting in the head, every morning.
Body pacifies the mind by the night,
ensuring, “It’s all going to be fine”.
I sleep.
And it all repeats.

Eventually, the mind stops trying.
It rather starts looking around
for another body, to be read by.
In the hope of it understanding what’s unsaid by my body,
what remains behind these lips,
what is envisioned by my eyes,
what I am too embarrassed to admit.
For brave are those whose bodies obey their thoughts,
others are waiting for someone’s hand, a pull.

And in that search, it finds togetherness.
It’s not love for it can’t be one-sided.
You may not love someone now,
but you never forget the language you shared,
you can’t unlearn how well you read him,
you might unlove.
Togetherness is the hope when betrayed by your own.
